How To Choose The Right Therapist For Your NDIS Plan?
Choosing a therapist who can help you with your specific needs is an important decision when you have an NDIS plan. At uCare iCare, we believe that every participant should have the right to make their own choices and have full control over the services they will be receiving.
Before Hiring A Mental Health Or Therapeutic Professional
1. Establish Your Goals & Conduct Research
Understanding your specific life goals and the supports you need to meet those goals is crucial. It is important to find a therapist that you feel comfortable with and understands your goals and will work with you on creating a plan to achieve those goals. It is also important to know their rate, working hours and location.
2. Cultural Background of the Therapist
A therapist who has a similar cultural background along with related life experiences, can assist you with reducing triggering situations. Besides, by choosing a therapist with similar cultural background, you can break down barriers easily and communicate your needs openly.
3. Interview the therapist
Arrange an interview session with the shortlisted therapists. By engaging in face-to-face discussions with them this will help you get a feel of how they work. These are great questions to ask therapists before you engage with their services:
- Do you have any experience working with participants with permanent disabilities?
- Do you do home visits and community visits?
- Have you worked with other participants that have similar disabilities to me and what have been their outcomes?
- Have you taken any further training or possess any additional accreditations?
- Are you comfortable communicating with other professionals like my doctor, teacher and other therapists?
- When can we start to set therapy goals?
- How long is your wait time?
- How long do you need to provide intervention according to my goals or needs?
